Houston, TX – On February 5, 2017, at 6:30 PM EST, the 51st Super Bowl more popularly known as Super Bowl LI was held in the NRG Stadium between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. The former won with a glorious comeback play at a final score of 34 – 28 in a game that reached overtime which happened for the first time in National Football League (NFL) History.
If you think the first ever overtime in the Super Bowl LI is epic enough, think again. The event was graced with an electrifying performance of none other than Lady Gaga. She sang “God Bless America” starting on the roof of the NRG Stadium. She had her own rendition of “This Land is Your Land.”
To make the halftime more exciting, she performed her very own songs starting from “Poker Face” from her debut album. While singing, she “flew” down landing on the halftime performance stage through a harness. This was followed by “Born This Way,” “Telephone,” “Just Dance,” “Million Reasons,” and “Bad Romance.”
Lady Gaga was known to make blatant political pronouncements in her performances but in the Super Bowl LI, her political statement was infused in her musical performances. Nevertheless, it was a thirteen minute spectacular performance for the Super Bowl LI halftime.
Lady Gaga, as a top rated performer, has always been known for her grotesque style and the Super Bowl is not an exception. She was wearing a glittery bodysuit accentuating her beautiful physique. The bodysuit has structured high shoulders for more drama and she also had sparkling knee-high boots to match the outfit. She changed her outfit in transition to her performance of “Bad Romance.” She was wearing a white cropped top with structured sleeves similar to the uniform worn by American football players. It’s very relevant to the Super Bowl LI.
Who else can dress up Lady Gaga on a spectacular event such as the Super Bowl LI? It’s no other than but Donatella Versace. Versace has designed various outfits for Lady Gaga especially on the latter’s Born This Way Tour in 2016. Versace even posted a photo of her and Lady Gaga in the outfit she designed on the former’s Instagram account.
Other than the sparkle and the prestige of being designed by one of the most fabulous fashion houses in the world, Versace, some online users have noticed the similarity of Lady Gaga’s outfit to that of the legendary David Bowie’s outfit in his Aladdin Sane period.
The similarity is with the structured shoulder outfit that Bowie wore. Though it was yet to be confirmed by Lady Gaga for the inspiration, her admiration of David Bowie is known through her message of admiration for Bowie in her social media accounts. Inspiration or not, both Lady Gaga and David Bowie are legendary artists that made their name in the entertainment industry.
The entire Super Bowl LI was every bit legendary from the first overtime in the history of Super Bowl to an epic comeback by the New England Patriots. However, Lady Gaga’s overall performance and style showcase for the halftime event trended on its own. Indeed, the sparkle and the structured fashion of her outfit matched the spectacle of the Super Bowl LI is going to be trending again in the entertainment, sports, and fashion industry, don’t you agree?
