Despite his global fame, Robert Downey Jr. experienced a fanboy moment when he crossed paths with Beatles legend Paul McCartney. While appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the actor shared how he organized a screening of “Oppenheimer” at his Hamptons residence, unable to attend a film premiere or promote it due to an actors’ strike preceding the movie’s July release.
Downey Jr. expressed his surprise at everyone he invited actually RSVPing, including iconic actor Michael J. Fox and director Stephen Spielberg. During the screening, he found himself sitting next to Paul McCartney, leading to a moment of awe and fascination. He described how he couldn’t help but notice McCartney’s presence, even synchronizing his breathing with the music legend while neglecting to watch the film.
Admitting to still experiencing moments of starstruck excitement, Downey Jr. recently received a Golden Globe for his role in “Oppenheimer,” the epic thriller centered on the physicist known as the “father of the atomic bomb.”
