During the December 11-17 viewing period, Amazon’s “Reacher” climbed to second place in Nielsen’s streaming rankings following the December 15 release of its second season’s first three episodes. The series accumulated 1.7 billion viewing minutes in just three days. Nielsen’s data revealed that the majority of the audience is over 50 years old and predominantly male, consistent with the demographic trends from the first season.
In contrast, when “Reacher” first appeared on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 for the January 31 – February 6, 2022 period, it also ranked second. It garnered 1.84 billion viewing minutes after its February 4 premiere. The first season, which released all eight episodes at once, achieved 1.8 billion minutes viewed over three days, compared to the more staggered release of the second season’s initial episodes.
Other notable entries in Nielsen’s list include “Leave the World Behind,” which maintained its top spot from the previous week with nearly 2 billion minutes viewed, and “Young Sheldon,” which has been available on Netflix and Max and reached 1.43 billion minutes viewed. “The Crown” also made a comeback, placing fourth after the release of its final episodes on December 14, with 1.22 billion minutes viewed in four days. “My Life With the Walter Boys” followed closely with 1.1 billion minutes viewed in its debut week after a December 7 release.
“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” fell to seventh place with 898 million minutes viewed, and Netflix’s “Obliterated” ranked ninth with 729 million minutes viewed. Notably, “Barbie,” which premiered on Max on December 15, did not make the overall streaming chart but opened third in the movies chart with 518 million minutes viewed in its first three days.
Other shows on the list include “Grey’s Anatomy” (969 million), “Bluey” (818 million), and “NCIS” (722 million). Nielsen’s comprehensive streaming rankings for December 11-17 are categorized into overall streaming titles, original streaming titles, acquired titles, and films.
