The trial of British rapper Slowthai, real name Tyron Frampton, has been postponed after he pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape last year. The charges stem from an incident in Oxford on September 8, 2021, where Frampton allegedly penetrated a woman without her consent.
When Frampton first appeared before Oxfordshire Magistrates Court in May last year, he was charged with both oral and vaginal rape. The rapper, known for hits such as “Doorman” and “Psycho,” was subsequently removed from festival line-ups including Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury.
In response to the allegations, Slowthai took to social media to proclaim his innocence. He denied the charges and expressed confidence that his name would be cleared. He also requested that his supporters refrain from commenting on the situation and respect his family’s privacy.
Slowthai’s wife, Anne-Marie, who is a successful singer in her own right, has yet to make a public statement regarding the accusations against her husband. The trial was scheduled to commence on July 1 at Oxford Crown Court, with co-defendant Alex Walker also facing charges related to the same incident.
However, Judge Ian Pringle recently announced that the trial date needed to be pushed back as it was impossible to accommodate it on the original date. The new trial date has been set for November 25 and is expected to last two to three weeks.
