Jamie Foxx, a well-known actor and singer, is facing allegations of sexual assault from an incident that reportedly occurred in 2015. These allegations have come to light through recent court filings.
This accusation is part of a broader wave of legal actions against prominent figures in the entertainment industry for alleged sexual and physical abuse of women. This surge in lawsuits coincides with the nearing deadline for the Adult Survivors Act in New York, which allows victims to file sexual abuse claims beyond the usual statute of limitations.
The woman, identified as Jane Doe in the legal documents, claims that Foxx, born Eric Marlon Bishop, assaulted her at the Catch restaurant in New York City in August 2015, as reported by TMZ. According to her statement, she and a friend were dining near Foxx and approached him for a photograph. She alleges that Foxx appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and subsequently led her to a secluded part of the restaurant, where he began inappropriately touching her.
Despite her attempts to distance herself, and the presence of a staff member who walked away, Foxx allegedly continued the assault, including inserting his fingers into her private areas, until her friend arrived at the scene. The legal documents state that the plaintiff has endured, and continues to experience, significant emotional distress and trauma, including humiliation, embarrassment, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other physical and emotional damages.
The lawsuit names Catch restaurant, its employees, and Mark Birnbaum, co-founder of Catch Hospitality Group, as defendants. The plaintiff is seeking a jury trial and both compensatory and punitive damages.
This is not the first time Foxx has faced such allegations. In 2018, another woman accused him of sexual misconduct, which he strongly denied, as reported by People magazine. Earlier this year, Foxx was in the news due to health issues that resulted in a brief hospital stay.
As of now, representatives for Foxx and the plaintiff’s attorney have not responded to requests for comment from HuffPost.
