WASHINGTON – The country’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign for children seems to be going better. However, the country would still need to go through many challenges to sustain its momentum.
Fortunately, the United States expects at least 900,000 children would receive the vaccine by the first week of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine approval. According to COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients, the country is off to a very strong start.
Since the announcement on November 2, 2021, about the approval of the COVID-19 vaccine, the estimation increased as the age gap for eligibility increased.
Furthermore, at least 20,000 clinics, pharmacies, and other medical facilities offer the COVID-19 vaccine for children. These facilities also received at least 700,000 first-shot appointments for this week.
Because of these favorable results, the country expects that at least 900,000 children will receive the vaccine by the end of the week.
These statistics also mean that Christmas would fully vaccinate the children vaccinated by November.
The United States government also started encouraging schools to host vaccination clinics to increase the efficiency of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
For example, the health officials in Cabell County created vaccination clinics in all its public middle schools to compensate for the increasing demand for the vaccine.
However, the United States would need to find a way to continue maintaining this demand. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the demand for the vaccine could start receding soon.
