This year’s BET Awards was something different to experience with it being virtual, but that did not stop the fashionable looks or performances.
The theme of Sunday’s show “Our Culture Can’t Be Canceled” comes at a time of cultural unrest over racial injustice in the wake of the death of George Floyd and history of horrible treatment and unfairness with no justice.
The show also played tribute to 40 years of BET, and host Amanda Seales will took us through four decades of the network’s innovative programming, from Video Soul to 106 & Park.
Kicking off with teen gospel singer Keedron Bryant, 12, offering a powerful performance of his viral hit, “I Just Wanna Live.” Than rapper Roddy Ricch, followed by singer John Legend.
LIL WAYNE PAYS TRIBUTE TO KOBE BRYANT
Wayne’s rap performance highlighted Kobe’s career and was an amazing tribute to the G.O.A.T. Wayne ended his performance by saying “Black Lives Matter, facts,” and then a clip of Kobe’s last moment on the court when he says “Mamba out.”
SUMMER WALKER AND USHER PERFORM AN R&B MEDLEY
Summer began sitting in a pink-hued living room with “Session 32” and “Come Thru” before Usher joined her from his adjacent, blue-tinted stage for “You Make Me Wanna.” He finally decides to risk it all (social distancing wise) by leaving his stage and joining Summer on hers.
ALICIA KEYS PERFORMS “PERFECT WAY TO DIE”
Megan Thee Stallion may not have been able to give us her hotness on the red carpet this year, but that did not stop her looking like a snack on Sunday, June 28. She killed it for her virtual performance of her hit song “Savage.”
“For Megan’s look, the edgy-ness of the desert performance called for a more textured, sleek look that allowed for lots of movement,” celeb hairstylist Kellon Deryck told Us in recent interview “So we created a sexy, chic hairstyle.”
