The We’re Going to Need More Wine author, Gabrielle Union and husband, basketball star Dwayne Wade have just announced the birth of their first child together, a baby girlon November 7, 2018.
Union, now 46, had opened up in her book that she has had trouble getting pregnant and struggled with it for years and so this announcement was a huge shock to fans of the actress and the Miami Heat player.
The couple posted a picture at the hospital with the baby girl on November 8th. The caption included lyrics from the song Lovely Day by Bill Withers, stating that this is the loveliest of all the lovely days.
Because of their struggle to conceive, the baby girl was born via a surrogate whose identity is undisclosed. Prior to seeking the help of a surrogate, Union had her share of miscarriages since she had been married to Wade back in 2014, along with quite a number of failed In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) attempts over the years.
As if things weren’t bad enough, Union was also diagnosed with adenomyosis which stripped her of the opportunities of bearing any children. She even mentioned that because she kept her battles to herself and within their family, she would often end up saying she didn’t want kids when people asked her why she hasn’t had any.
She hopes that people could be more sensitive towards women who they may not know are suffering from reproductive health issues. In a New York conference, the City of Angels star mentioned that people felt that they are entitled to know everything about every celebrity.
Wade on the other hand has had kids of his own, three in total, to whom Union maintains familial relationships with. Together they are raising Wade’s sons Zion who is 11, and his brother Zaire who is 16. Wade’s nephew is also part of the family, 16-year-old Dahveon.
