LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Anthology crime drama series True Detective will be welcoming its viewers with a new face in season 3. According to reports, Scoot McNairy will be joining the cast alongside stars Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, and Stephen Dorff.
The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star will be playing a character named Tom. He is described as a father who went through a terrible loss. He will also have some sort of connection to Ali and Dorff’s characters, Wayne Hays and Roland West, respectively. The Hays and West are two state police detectives from Northwest Arkansas. It’s not detailed that they may have something to do with Tom’s past that happened 10 years ago already.
Further details about his role in the series are still kept under wraps. Fans will have to watch out for season 3 to find out more about what’s in store for McNairy. However, followers of the show will have to be patient as the release of season 3 will be a long wait. Reports reveal that the HBO series created by Nic Pizzolatto will not be back in the small screen until 2019. HBO programming president Casey Bloys confirmed this information.
It’s been two years already since season 2 of the series aired its final episode. Though nothing is certain, the long wait may have something to do with the response of the fans with the second season. True Detective season 1 starring Matthew McConaughey was a hit, but its subsequent series failed to meet the fans’ expectations.
Nonetheless, the series is looking forward to its third season, and fans are open to giving it another chance, especially with Ali slated for production. Bloys also said in an interview that he has read Pizzolatto’s script and he described it as “terrific.” Pizzolatto will be working alongside Deadwood creator David Milch and Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier.
Details reveal that True Detective season 3 will revolve around the story of a macabre crime. It will be set in the heart of the Ozarks. The characters will be caught in a mystery that deepened over the decades. There will also be three separate time periods as the story plays out, and Ejogo will be playing as Ali’s wife in the story.
Production is said to begin already by next month. There are no other specific details, but Bloys assured that season 3 will be “fantastic.” He also said that people are going to be very happy with what they have plotted out for the series’ future.
True Detective first aired in January 2014 starring McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts, and Tory Kittles. Set in Louisiana, the homicide detectives pursued a serial killer. The second season followed in June 2015 and featured Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn. It revolved around California and focused on the three detectives trying to solve the mystery of the murder of a corrupt politician.
True Detective season 3 was officially greenlit by HBO in August 2017. There were rumors going around saying McConaughey will reprise his role as detective Rust Cohle. But that’s all done now with the confirmation of the official cast.
